The goal of this video is to educate Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) coordinators, nurses in the community who are, or may be, members of a MRC, and other members of the emergency response community about the range of critical roles nurses can play in response to large disasters, as well as fundamental emergency response principles, that will allow them to work in a coordinated fashion in a range of potential emergency situations.
Program Objectives At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the public health surge capacity needs during a major disaster.
- List and describe 5 potential disaster roles for the community health/public health nurse.
- Discuss the importance of basic emergency preparedness as the foundation for all emergency response.
