This CD-ROM contains 2 dynamic programs regarding children's health.
The first program, Helping Overweight Children, is a practical guide for pediatric care professionals, such as dietitians and primary care providers. The number of overweight school age children has tripled since the 1970s. The risks for diabetes type II, joint problems, and high blood pressure are drastically increased in overweight children. Because there are no scientific standards to define obesity in children, the CDC applies the term overweight to children with higher than usual levels of body fat.
This captivating multimedia study guide contains nearly 300 knowledge building blocks on this important topic, addressing such issues as:
- How to calculate if a child is overweight
- How hereditary factors play a role in overweight
- How to establish good eating habits for children
Special focus is placed on exploring fast food and soft drinks, in order to understand energy density and satiety value of food. Preventative measures are addressed to establish a healthier lifestyle, such as early prevention and physical exercise.
The second program, Pediatric Development and Nutrition, helps professionals to teach children how to develop proper nutrition. This practical guide also addresses other developmental issues of early childhood.
Both programs were developed by the Public Health Programs of San Diego State University (formerly California Distance Learning Health Network) and Total Recall Learning.
