Downliners Sect - The Country Sect - LP
Details:
180 Grm Reissue LP .. Ever since its release in June 1965, THE COUNTRY SECT has been a subject of confusion and controversy among not only Sect Maniacs but also the Downliners Sect themselves. In theory, the Downliners Sect could lay claim to having made the world's first Country-Rock album, but listening to THE COUNTRY SECT today it's apparent that it's not really a country album at all, at least not in the strict definition of the term. It's more of a hodge-podge of styles and influences, including country, R&B, folk, rockabilly, jugband and especially skiffle. "It was a nod, in a way, to the various influences," admits Craine. "I never seriously intended it as country music. It was tongue-in-cheek to some extent, all the time." Reproduction of the original artwork PLUS super-extensive liner notes by Garage Rock archivist Mike Stax (Ugly Things magazine). Tracks..If I Could Just Go Back; Rocks In My Bed; Ballad Of The Hounds; Little Play Soldiers; Hard Travellin'; Wait For The Light To Shine; I Got Mine; Waiting In Heaven Somewhere; Above And Beyond; Bad Storm Coming; Midnight Special; Wolverton Mountain; Wreck Of The Old '97; Leader Of The SectÂ…due March 2003
