The trick that gives Xenon fender flares their durability is the fact that Xenon fender flares "give" a little when they're impacted. Rigid flares have no "give," so the result of an impact is either no damage or cracking and breaking. Since Xenon fender flares can flex, they can absorb much harder hits than non Xenon fender flares. The flexibility won't stop you from painting your Xenon fender flares, though.
