The flip side of the hype . . . the other side of the extreme
Shot at Whistler Mountain in 1998, "Mountain Sense" is an abridged version of our documentary Snow Sense which has aired on the Outdoor Life Network, Knowledge Network, Access TV, and SaskTV.
A straight ahead TV documentary that profiles the potential risks of backcountry or out-of-bounds skiing/snowboarding. The work of avalanche forecasters and rescue techniques are profiled. In recent winters, more skiers and boarders have been getting into trouble in the out-of-bounds areas than ever before. The underlying message in this program is that even people with years of experience as well as eager novices in extreme mode are at risk especially if no precautions are taken at all. The point is tragically illustrated with actual footage of the aftermath of an avalanche where three people in a guided, heli-ski group lost their lives.
NOTE
> Mountain Sense portrays women in non-traditional roles: avalanche forecasting, avalanche control, and backcountry search and rescue.
