Antique Japanese Obi from the Taisho period (1912-1926). This is a Maru obi, which is fully patterned on both sides and is the most formal. This style was popular in the Meiji and Taisho periods. The weave is brocade (raised design). It has a beige background with cranes, pines, crysanthmum and plum flowers and measures 95" long x 12-3/4". It came from a collector in Japan and is doubtful that it was ever worn. It is in excellent condition.
