Smock, Ginger - L.A. Studio & Demo Recordings 1946-1958 - CD
Ginger Smock
Title: L.A. Studio & Demo Recordings 1946-1958
Format: CD
Details:
Also billed as The Bronze Gipsy with her Violin and The Sweetheart of the Strings, Ginger Smock was a protegee of Stuff Smith's and first recorded in 1946, becoming only the second lady violinist ever to play hot improvisations on commercial jazz recordings. In the present day she has become something of a lost legend but the scarce material collected on this CD should remedy this. More or less complete recordings including rare private demos, from hard bop on an electric Rickenbacker fiddle to the strange hybrid rock & roll/square dance of Fiddlers Rock. Lovers of obscure R&Side Bs are also catered for by the inclusion of several 1953 tracks from the Jackson Brothers.
