St James Walkway
The St James Walkway is a four to five day tramp of 67 kilometres which meanders through the beautiful mountains, forests and pastoral valleys of northern Canterbury. The route passes through the Lewis Pass National Reserve, Lake Sumner Forest Park, Poplars Station and St James Station. Its length and mountainous terrain make it more strenuous than most walkways, and it provides an excellent opportunity for averagely fit people to develop tramping skills.
The Lewis Pass National Reserve is an area of outstanding natural beauty offering a wide range of outdoor activities including short walks, picnicking, hunting, fishing and tramps which take several days to complete.
