Citronella is defined as: "a common name for a grass, Cymbopogon nardus, the source of oil of citronella, used in perfumes and soaps and as an insect repellent. The plant has bluish green, lemon-scented leaves. Citronella is classified in the division Magnoliophyta , class Liliopsida, order Cyperales, family Gramineae."
Until recently natural citronella repellents were approved for use on children under the age of two; there now seems to be pressure from DEET repellent manufacturers to change the regulations for natural citronella repellents so that there will only be DEET repellents on the market.
