From one Soldier Unto Another thank YOU! Norsia is an army veteran, singer and songwriter who is dedicated to writing and performing patriotic type songs from a unique insight that can only be expressed through a soldiers experience.
He now combines his musical talents with his many years of active duty service in performing free shows for the troops nation wide in hopes of helping to encourage, inspire and uplift the spirits of our soldiers, their families and the military communities. While on active duty, among many other deployments, Norsia spent 12 months in the gulf region and was also deployed and directly involved for several months in ground operations in Mogadishu Somalia in 1993 during the period of extreme hostility to include the time frame in which the Black Hawk Down episode occurred.
Like other soldiers as a family man, Norsia often found himself separated from his loving wife and three young children for long periods of time, yet like other military families, his love ones understood and fully supported his sacrifice of service.
Some of his awards include, the combat patch, meritorious service medal, armed forces expeditionary medal, the joint service commendation medal, the army commendation medal, NCO professional development ribbon/w num 3, national defense service medal, united nations medal and the air assault badge.
Over the past 24 months, Norsia has traveled nearly 50,000 miles at his own expense performing and entertaining thousands of our military soldiers and families across the US and overseas totally on his own. Some of his past performances include the Vietnam Wall Experience and the United States Air Force Academy both in Colorado Springs, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and recently he made his television debut on the Harvest TV Show which was recorded and broadcasted live nation wide from South Bend Indiana.
Norsias song titled "Say a Prayer for the Soldiers" was even selected in 2003 as one of the top patriotic songs by the Soldier Radio and TV Network. It is Norsia's desire to continue traveling and sharing his patriotic songs throughout the country and hope that we as Americans will understand the importance of showing continual support for our soldiers and their families. He is completing his twenty-seventh year of teaching and currently lives and works in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he is a member of the staff at Harrison High School. A life-long fan of traditional country music, Doug started writing songs in 2003. The motivation behind his writing was first to pay tribute to his hero and brother, Ronald James Fitch. FROGS DIDN'T HAVE GUNS is the story of two kids, Ron and John, who were friends before and throughout high school. They were both killed while serving our country in Viet Nam, the year was 1967. The songs are not about war, but about heroes who have answered the call to duty and have served or even today are in harm's way. Oprah's guests were family or friends of loved ones who had recently been killed while deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. The guests were sharing the very last letters written and sent home by their loved ones.
