The CD publication, Geospatial Applications for Nebraska Agriculture (GANA), is an outgrowth of several workshops designed to promote the use of GIS in applied research and extension education. The GANA CD provides a comprehensive Nebraska geo-database of ESRI shapefiles and grids, three agronomic ArcView 3 projects, map files (.tif and .pdf), ArcView 3 learning materials and support information on a variety of spatial topics. The projects make use of digital soil survey information, climate normals, NASS (National Agricultural Statistics Service) data (crop yield, crop progress and soil moisture), a digital elevation model and terrain modeling. The CD provides a foundation for developing laboratory exercises for undergraduate courses, extension workshops and/or individual ArcView skills. The GANA CD is designed for those engaged in land-use planning, applied agronomic research, extension education, agricultural geography, crop consulting, USDA and other federal agencies, crop producers and students interested in geospatial analysis. Requirements
The ArcView projects can be opened with ESRIs ArcView 3.1/3.2a/3.3 and Spatial Analyst (2.0). (ArcView system requirements are listed at http://www.esri.com/software/arcview/index.html.) ArcView 8.1/8.2 imports each view as a separate data frame. The spatial data on this CD can be opened with any GIS software that can read ESRI shapefiles and grids.
Some knowledge of ArcView 3.1/3.2a/3.3 is necessary to make use of the material on this CD. Some educational materials are provided on the CD. Availability GANA is available as a downloadable ZIP archive (165MB) or on CD-ROM.
