The days of only two-channel, stereo audio productions have come to an end. Now we can break our audio mixes out of the "left speaker" and "right speaker" mold and create an immersive sound experience for the listener/viewer using mulitple channels of audio. This seminar and workshop discusses viable options for producing multichannel audio for DVD and broadcast standards. Students will learn to mix audio in multiple channels the way the pros do: working in a professional Pro Tools studio, equipped with a Digidesign Pro control digital mixing board/control surface to intuitively spatialize audio on the fly.

In-class discussion topics will include an exploration of surround sound aesthetics and an overview of technologies behind mixing for both consumer and professional deliveries on multichannel formats.
