- preparing a gingival scraping;
- preliminary microscope adjustments;
- examining patient specimens; and
- troubleshooting potential problems.

The videotape was awarded the "1992 Gold Screen for Best Instructional Program." A companion program (included with this videotape), Morphology and Motility of Treponema pallidum demonstrates how to distinguish the pathogenic syphilis organism from three nonpathogenic treponemal species.
