Drug-resistant pathogens are a growing threat, especially in healthcare settings. Each year about 2 million patients in the United States get an infection in a hospital. More than 70% of the bacteria that cause hospital-acquired infections are resistant to at least one of the drugs most commonly used to treat them.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a Campaign to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Healthcare Settings. The latest campaign focuses on preventing antimicrobial resistance in surgical patients. This Campaign has been endorsed by the American College of Surgeons and the Surgical Infection Society.

This 11"x17" poster graphically and colorfully shows the four strategies of the Campaign to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance. Color-coded boxes break out the four strategies into 12 simple steps that clinicians can take to prevent antimicrobial resistance in surgical patients. The poster is laminated for the purpose of being posted above scrub sinks in hospitals.

This poster is designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel responsible for the care and treatment of surgical patients.
