"Foodborne Disease Outbreak Investigation: Epidemiological Case Studies for the Classroom contains three epidemiologic case studies that focus on foodborne disease outbreak investigations.
Case study titles are:
- Botulism in Argentina
- A Multistate Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infection
- Gastroenteritis at a University in Texas.
The case studies, based on real-life outbreak investigations, review fundamental epidemiologic concepts (e.g., case definitions, descriptive epidemiology) and introduce more advanced topics (e.g., hypothesis generating interviews, questionnaire development) and emerging methodologies in outbreak investigation (e.g., traceback of food products and the use of molecular epidemiology).
The case studies were developed for use in a classroom setting with a knowledgeable instructor and 5-15 students.
The instructor version is available for $30.00.
The case studies were authored by Jeanette K. Stehr-Green, M.D., formerly of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
