More than 18 million people in the United States are afflicted with diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic disease that can cause serious health complications including heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, and lower-extremity amputations. Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
This program is an eye-opening 30-minute health education docudrama that explores the impact of diabetes and its complications. Its goal is to raise diabetes awareness. By examining real life situations, the DVD takes "snapshots" of people from different backgrounds and shows how individuals deal with the disease. The program discusses the importance of preventative health regimens, early diabetes detection through testing, and tips for control and prevention of disabling complications.
