The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP), a joint venture between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, is pleased to announce the availability of New Beginnings: A Discussion Guide for Living Well with Diabetes.
This resource was designed to help public health professionals and others facilitate diabetes education. The resource expands on the themes and educational opportunities brought out in The Debilitator, a docudrama developed by Millennium Filmworks, Inc. The resource focuses on an often overlooked aspect of diabetesâthe impact that emotions can have on how people give and receive information about diabetes, whether they seek help, and ultimately, what influences them to take action to control or prevent diabetes.
New Beginnings is intended to help facilitate group discussions by providing stimulus questions, group and individual exercises, and role-playing experiences. It will be a great help in outreach efforts and will provide an opportunity to collaborate with community partners. Learning objectives, tips for leading a discussion on diabetes, and materials and handouts for discussion on the impact of diabetes are included in this discussion guide.
This product was created in collaboration with the NDEP African-American Work Group. For more information on NDEP, please visit their website.
