College Vocal de la Cathedrale de Metz, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra/David Shallon. The tragically premature death last September of David Shallon, whose CD of works by Ernest Bloch with his Luxembourg orchestra (TIMPANI 1C1052) was so highly-praised, has clearly robbed us of a distinguished champion of unjustly neglected music. Gabriel Pierne's fairy-tale ballet, of which this is the first complete recording, provides a worthy showcase for the high standard to which Shallon had raised the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Altogether a delightful disc which will amply repay the enquiring ear, with excellent sound and presentation.
