Walking into the large brightly lit hall of the Victorian mansion I could hear children's laughter and shouts from a distance. Tommy looked at me, pleading eyes expressing his most heartfelt wish. Our charming host led us straight to a large playroom, which was filled with the most unbelievable toys. Three children were sitting cross-legged on the wooden inlaid floor watching a puppet show. A boy who looked about as old as Tommy was swinging on a rope attached to the rafters. But Tommy's eyes were focused on a magnificent rocking horse, it's head upright, legs and hoofs firmly planted on elegantly curved rockersÂ… Rocking horses and stick horses have been favorite toys for generations. Early horse toys have been found in Egyptian pharaoh tombs, in eastern desert ruins, in imperial playrooms.
