In May of 1976, Mario Andretti rolled his shovel-nosed, candy-apple red CAM 2 McLaren to starting position 19 at the Indy 500?. Penske Racing had high hopes for their McLaren cars and drivers. Andretti, determined to perform better than the year before, battled his way to 8th when disappointment set in. At lap 102, the race was halted due to rain, never to restart. Only 255 miles or 102 laps were completed, making it the shortest Indy 500? in history.
