Mt Barney National Park
A rugged undeveloped park in the CERRA World Heritage Area for experienced bushwalkers and climbers. Queensland’s third highest peak. With many rare and restricted plant species much of the area is open Eucalypt Forest. Other plants are River she-oaks, Bottlebrushes, Golden Silky oaks, patches of rainforest and Antarctic Beech Forest. Platypus, Kingfishers, Honey Eaters, Robins, many birds of prey, Brush Tailed Rock Wallabies and Kangaroos can be seen in the park.
To bushcamp in the national park, it is recommended to book 3-6 weeks in advance. Routes in Mt Barney National Park range from moderate to very steep. There are no easy walks in Mt Barney National Park. Bushcampers should expect rugged conditions with no facilities, and are expected to adhere to strict size limits. Overnight back-pack camping only permitted in the park. Campsites may be closed from time to time to allow for regeneration or during periods of high fire danger. Check with the Ranger for current camping information.
Facilities at Yellow Pinch and Lower Portals only. For safety, all visitors must register with the Ranger at Boonah. Conventional access from Rathdowney-Boonah Road. 20km south-west of Rathdowney. Bush Camping Campers must book through park office. No campig on Mt Barney's east peak. No camping in the saddle December-January. Take a fuel stove. WOOD FIRES PROHIBITED.
