The twins of time 'escape' from Merebrook Manor and are tricked into riding their bikes over a 'fairy bridge' into the enchanted kingdom of Merryvale.
Here they fall foul of the Didicots, ancient Gipsy Kings, and are guided on a mission by invisible forces to help the fairy folk of Merryvale defend their kingdom against the ancient spirits Dragondrake and Hilderdrake, very nasty incarnations indeed. Aided by Davideus, a former statue, Socrates, a former oracle, and Maeneid, a powerful water spirit, and riding the legendary Etherbeasts, the twins do battle with the forces of evil, but it is not until Minwa, a black angel, changes sides, revealing the underbelly of their unwordly enemies, that they are able to attempt the task that they were transported to the enchanted kingdom to fulfil.
