Best Garden Plants for North Carolina
by Pam Beck & Laura Peters
--from the press's description:
This book is essential reading for new gardeners or gardeners new to North Carolina. It features 540 plants best suited to North Carolina growing conditions, including annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, climbers, roses, bulbs and herbs. The book includes information on each plant's special features, its habitat, height and spread, best soil, light and water conditions, and tips about the best use of the plant in your garden. Another highlight of the book are the more than 300 full-color photographs. Pam Beck is a writer for Carolina Gardening magazine. Laura Peters is the author or co-author of 19 gardening books.
As it says, "for new gardeners." General information such as height & rate of spread, minimal planting information, flower color & bloom time, and some recommended varieties. Good photos, excellent binding.
No help on securing plants, nor the need for differentiating between wild and cultivated, which--from our experience--is especially helpful with something like Carolina jessamine. But to give you a basic idea of what to shop for, and to carry along with you as you shop, this is a good one.
