To The Moon and Beyond is an 85 minute video exploring man's journey
to the moon and beyond. It is made up of the following three films
about NASA's exploration of space. The first film is Assignment:
Shoot the Moon. This film shows the efforts that were taken to accurately
explore the Moon in preparation for the Apollo space missions. It
details how the Moon was surveyed with the Ranger, Surveyor and
Lunar Orbiter to get accurate details about the geography and composition
of the moon to determine optimal landing sites for Apollo manned
moon missions. The second film is Small Steps, Giant Strides. This
film, narrated by Isaac Asimov, discusses the technological advances
made in space exploration from 1958 to 1973 and how those advances
are making possible the exploration of new frontiers of space. The
third film is Who's Out There? This film, narrated by Orson Welles,
discusses the Viking probes to Mars and explores the scientific
possibility of extraterrestrial life.
