Burntisland, Fife with Pettycur Bay leading round to Kinghorn
Burntisland is now a holiday and commuter town on the Fife coast within easy reach of centres of employment such as Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. This view of the beach and the links area at high tide shows the main road and railway following the coast, with Burntisland in the foreground and centre and Kinghorn at the top, and the wide sweep of Pettycur Bay occupying much of the shot. The new swimming pool and leisure centre is visible in the right foreground, with the links which still bear the marks of the fairground stalls which stood here about a month earlier to the left. Pettycur Bay Caravan Park extends up the steep hillside from the road just to the right of top centre, with Kinghorn itself beyond.
