Loch Craignish and Ardfern N395-17
Loch Craignish, a sea loch which opens into the Sound of Jura in the far west of the mainland in Argyll and Bute. The sea lochs, islands, valleys and ridges in this area all have a north-west to south-west orientation, reflecting the movement of glaciers during the last Ice Age. This view looks north-east across the islands of Eilean Dubh in the foreground and Eilean Mhic Chrion in the upper centre, with Ardfern and its marina on the shoreline to the left. Raised beaches are prominent around Eilean Mhic Chrion and are also visible on Eilean Dubh, reflecting changes of sea level since the last ice age. Pastoral farming, based on the extensive rough grazing and tourism/leisure pursuits are the main economic activitieswith many yatchs and other small vessels taking advantage of the sheltered waters
