ADVICED PROGRAMDay 1 : arrive
Arrive this morning in Napoli. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Your day is free to do as you please.Day 2 : Vesuvio- Pompei
After breakfast excursion to fascinating Pompeii. Totally buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and not re-discovered until the 17th century, Pompeii’s antiquities offer you an unparalleled view of Roman life. You’ll explore Pompeii’s most significant sites and learn how its people lived, built homes, and conducted business.
Continue afterwards to enjoy a tour to Vesuvio, the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years, although it is not currently erupting. Vesuvius is situated on the coast of the Bay of Naples, about nine kilometres (six miles) to the east of the city and a short distance inland from the shore. It forms a conspicuous feature in the beautiful landscape presented by that bay, when viewed from the sea, with the city in the foreground. The mountain is notorious for its destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in AD 79. Overnight in NapoliDay 3 : Campi Flegrei - Pozzuoli
This excursion starts with the visit of the “Campi Flegrei”. It is a large Caldera area situated in the west area of Napoli, Italy. Today most of the crater lies underwater, but includes the town of Pozzuoli and the Solfatara crater, home of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan.
In 1538, an 8-day eruption in the area deposited enough material to create a new hill, Monte Nuovo (= "new mountain").
Pozzuoli, the main city of the Phlegrean peninsula has a number of tourist attractions like the Amphitheatre and the Roman temples.
Overnight in NapoliDay 4 : Napoli - Stromboli
After breakfast set off on a tour of Napoli. You will start to discover the city, one of the world’s most beautiful seaports.
You begin your explorations at the National Archeological Museum, one of Europe’s most valuable repositories, featuring the priceless Farnese collection of ancient Roman statuary and the many colorful treasures removed from long buried Pompeii, Stabia, and Herculaneum. After you’ll enjoy a panoramic tour of the city’s highlights: the Maschio Angioino, the massive fortress protecting the harbor; Palazzo Reale; Piazza Plebiscito; the Galleria Umberto, with its fin de siècle atmosphere; the Teatro San Carlo.
In the evening you live Napoli by boat to ride to StromboliDay 5-6 : Stromboli
Arrive in the morning in Stromboli and transferred to your hotel. Stromboli is one of the two active volcanoes in Italy.
In these 2 days discover the island or organise a boat trip to Panarea or to "Strombolicchio" where the cliffs to the north rise steeply to 56 meters above theTyrrhenian Sea
It is possible In the evening to do an optional excursion to see the eruptions. You can do it into two different ways:
• with a boat excursion, you stop by the “Sciara di fuoco” where the vertical precipice descends down to the sea bringing with it its incandescent material.
• with a trekking excursion by night where you can follow the eruptions staying in the opposite volcano’s mountainside.
Overnight in StromboliDay 7 : Lipari - Vulcano
In the morning transferred by ferryboat to Lipari; the largest of the seven Aeolian Islands. Lipari has a lively main town with an 11th-century cathedral, remains of Roman buildings and an interesting archaeological museum.
The town is still largely surrounded by ramparts built by the Spanish in 1544, during their occupation of the Kingdom of Sicily.
Continue afterwards to enjoy a tour of Vulcano. It is considered the island of thermal springs and mud-bathing, a destination of sport enthusiasts who can appreciate and enjoy the beauty of its waters together with that of the volcano, from which there are breathtaking sights, for example, the view of the surrounding islands and the isthmus connecting Vulcano to Vulcanello.
Overnight in Lipari.Day 8 : Salina
After breakfast join you this morning for an excursion to fascinating Salina’s island. It is formed by two extinct volcanoes: "Monte Fossa delle Felci and "Monte dei Porri" which give it an aspect for which the ancient name of Island was derived: "Dydime" or rather twins.
The island is composed of numerous small natural bays, among which, Pollara, with its beaches and deserted fishermen's cottages, very picturesque at sunset; Rinella with its black-coloured grottos , which has been transformed into a small port.
Overnight in Lipari.Day 9 : Etna - Taormina
In the morning you leave Lipari to go to Milazzo. In program today we have the Volcano Etna and Taormina.
The Etna is one of Europe’s few remaining active volcanoes, which dominates the surrounding landscape. By coach we arrive to 2000 m , where you have the possibility to go up to 3000 m with the cable-railway and Jeeps.
Continue afterwards to enjoy a tour of Taormina, one of the island’s most ancient towns and most popular resorts. Its origins go back to the time of Dionysius in about 40BC. It remained an important city during the Greek and Roman periods, and the Theatre and Odeon survive as reminders of those times.
Taormina also boasts a number of elegant mansions and palaces dating from the Middle Ages, and several interesting churches including the 15th-century fortified cathedral, and St Pancras’, which incorporates part of a Greek temple.
