Batch of 4 seeds sold unpierced. Seeds from the oil bean tree are native from tropical Africa.Sizes: between 40 and 60 mm. Description: Flattened, oblong seeds. Slightly wrinkled surface with warm brown tones reminding of exotic woods such as merbau . The image below shows a representative batch taken randomly. Differences exist between batches in shapes, tones and sizes of seeds.Traditional uses: the seeds are used in cooking, as a condiment and by yielding a protein-rich oil. A sacred tree to the Ibo of Nigeria, it is credited with providing souls to the newborn. Used for a fishing method in Côte d'Ivoire which consist in throwing seeds and bark into calm water to stun fish so they float to the surface to be gathered.Women in central Africa eat the crushed seeds with ants to induce abortion.
