Details:
Folk singer Anabel Santiago was born in Buenos Aires in 1981, but from an early age grew up in the Asturias region of Northern Spain, learning la tonada - the traditional Asturian vocal music, which she has translated to the 21st century, with elements of contemporary folk, pop & rock - on Desnuda she includes surprising cover versions of La Chicana and Johnny Cash.. If Janis Joplin were Asturiana, she would probably sound like this, and Anabel has become a highly respected performer in the tradition of other stars from that area : La Busdonga, Diamantina Rodriguez, El Maragatu & Juanín de Mieres.. She is backed by a fine 6-piece band, led by guitarist & album-producer, Michael Lee Wolfe - with accordion, piano, double bass, drums & percussion - plus other guest musicians.. She has recorded a number of albums before, including the widely-praised "Anabel Santiago canta a Diamantina Rodriguez". In her style one can also hear subtle influences of Lucinda Williams, Misia, Maria del Mar Bonet, Lorrena McKennit, Lila Downs, Mercedes Sosa, Carmen Paris and Mercedes Peón.
