This DVD offers an excellent selection of films and short newsreels
about Israel and surrounding area in the mid 20th Century. The total
runtime for this collection is 1 hour 15 minutes.
The two short newsreels cover a Tel Aviv Israel protest against
UN order to evacuate Gaza and Sinai in Mideast and Suez and a debate
on the Six-Day Middle East war in the UN.
The films are:
1) Screen Traveler: Damascus and Jerusalem (1936) - A whirlwind
tour of Palesinte, Damascus, The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Haram-esh-Sherif,
Mount of Olives, the Wailing Wall, the Jaffa Gate and more.
2) Middle East Amatuer Film (1933) - This silent film visits Bethlehem
showing a variety of street and religious scenes and the Wailing
Wall.
3) Labor of Thy Hands (1950s) - This film, presented by Hadassa,
discusses the various vocational training programs that this organization
funds in Israel and how the program bring new hope to young people
who had their lives torn apart by the concentration camps and family
destruction during the war.
4) Sands of Sorrow (1950) - This film examines the Arab-Israeli
war and the refugees caused by it. It shows relief efforts for the
displaces and discusses work programs for the refugees. It is an
excellent portrayal of the damage war does to the innocent civilians
in the areas affected.
