This construction is Barry Cohen's most ambitious work. Characteristic of his approach, it reveals the artist's gift for selecting and arranging charming antique smalls, placing them in a beautiful composition.

Barry Cohen was an iconic New York City collector/dealer in the field of American folk art. As an artist, Cohen was best known for his elaborate constructions of assembled little gems, often requiring years to complete. He achieved recognition as one of America's fifty young talents in 1956 from Art in America magazine. Additionally, the prestigious Allan Stone Gallery in New York City represented him. Barry's works are represented in many private collections and major museums.

This masterwork required nearly five years to complete and utilizes a trapezoidal shelf that was originally a part of Cohen's collection, along with a multitude of wonderful small treasures.

ReferenceThe Barry Cohen Collection, America Hurrah, New York, and David A. Schorsch, Inc. (1990).
