This silver piece of eight was recovered from the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet, 13 ships which were struck by a hurricane on July 30th, 1715 off the coast of Florida. All but one ship was driven ashore between Ft. Pierce and Sebastian Inlet, now known as the Treasure Coast of Florida. More treasure has been found on the beaches and offshore than anywhere else in the world, and is still being found today. We have appeared on the Travel Channel for 3 years now for stuff we found down there. There are still six ships of the Fleet that are unaccounted for and waiting for their treasure to be found. This coin, a one reale, was recovered from the Corrigan's site south of Sebastian Inlet. It was minted at the Mexico City Mint aournd 1714, and is mounted in a 14 kt. yellow gold bezel with a barrel hoop at the top. A certificate of authenticity is included.
