Some history on the three Derby porcelain factories: From the 1750s the Derby factories were led by William Duesbury I, who believed his factory would rival Dresden; Sampson Hancock, who set up a successful factory at King Street; and Edward Phillips, who built his 'dream garden factory' in Osmaston Road in 1877. Derby artists who contributed to the prestige of Derby included William Pegg the Quaker, William Billingsley and Desire Leroy. Other artistic influences at Derby included Persian, Indian, Japanese, Islamic and Sevres* styles.
