The third studio album from a band that needs no introduction. Recorded in Los Angeles, El Paso, and Melbourne, Australia, Amputechture is comprised of eight tracks and clocks in at over 70 minutes. The songs are slightly more traditional in structure than 2004's Frances the Mute, but the song lengths are as unpredictable as ever. The recording (produced by Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez) is embellished with horns and percussion, utilizing almost a dozen players, including John Frusciante (who appears on every track). The album's cover art is by the painter Jeff Jordan, whose "Big Mutant" is displayed in full, uninterrupted glory across the gatefold jacket. The band will tour the U.S. from August until November supporting the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
