There are double action and single action bellows. The single action is of the type that you see today used for pumping air to help the fire burn. It alternates between putting out air and not putting out air as it fills the leather tank. A double action bellows has to put out a steady stream of air, usually to operate a forge. The simplicity of this double action is expertly outlined in many, many very nice penciled diagrams. As a sidefact, most blacksmith bellows of a hundred years ago were four to five feet long. Paperback, 26 pages, 5X8. Written by Robert M. Heath.
