- Part 1: Begins with a narrative review of the full stroke technique of former Auburn All-American Rada Owen followed by an on deck demonstration/discussion of the components of the freestyle.
- Part 2: 12-drill progression to build the ideal freestyle beginning with establishing core body position and rotation. Marsh adds the arm movement through single arm drills with rotation. Coach Marsh begins this six-part video by offering a full stroke overview of the All-American backstroke technique of demonstrator, Bryce Hunt and follows, on deck, with a brief overview of the stroke components. In Part 2, Brackin energetically embarks upon 20 drills and variations in a progression to achieve backstroke perfection. Beginning with an on deck demonstration and discussion of how to set the ideal body position for backstroke, Brackin progresses into the water with body positioning and kicking drills. Next, Brackin progresses to arm movement through drills that teach proper recovery and hand placement. Brackin discusses and demonstrates how to gauge a swimmer's tempo and drills that train a backstroker to be able to achieve a desired race tempo (Part 3). Part 4 includes strategies for proper dolphin kickouts and stroke transition. In Part 5, Brackin reviews the aspects of the stroke that were reinforced by the drill progression. Coach Marsh begins with a narrated full-stroke overview of the All-American technique of former Auburn great, Laura Swander. On deck, Coach Marsh then reviews the overall technique components for swimming faster breaststroke. Marsh breaks down the breaststroke kick sharing four specific drills for kick development and then progresses through 20 breaststroke drills/variations. Included in these drills are: breakdowns of the specifics for the pull phase of the stroke, timing of the stroke, drills that key upon keeping the stroke "focused forward," and drills for teaching and perfecting the pullout. In this video, Marsh, Pilczuk and Brackin, share the tools to generate maximum speed from the start itself through the breakout. Beginning with the forward track start (Part 1), Pilczuk presents proper foot positioning on the block, weight distribution, balance, and body lean. In Part 2, Marsh and Pilczuk detail the importance of holding a strong and rigid line when the swimmer hits the water to increase acceleration. He includes a jump and a dive sequence, both designed to help develop agility and body position awareness. Pilczuk then combines the set up with the launch for practicing the full dive. (Part 3) Marsh discusses the importance of making "soft changes" in transitioning from the actual dive into the breakout. Pilczuk then puts the entire start together at full speed. He then discusses the importance of the pre-race start routine. Perhaps a more appropriate title for this particular video is "Auburn Sprint Secrets Revealed!" This video offers a candid look at virtually every aspect of the Auburn Sprinting Program. In Part 1, Marsh lays out a seasonal plan for his sprint program. Details of the plan include both in the pool training, dryland, and weights and a look at a typical training weekly plan. As in all of the sections of this video, you will witness Marsh's unique understanding of the nuances of the sprinter themselves and you will also see how Marsh capitalizes upon those nuances by building them into his program. In Part 2: Marsh shares how he would implement his sprint program into a training plan for a 12-14 week high school season. In Part 3, "Training Toys", Marsh shares the equipment he likes to utilize in training his sprinters. Coach Crocker has experienced success at every level of the sport! As an assistant at Auburn, Crocker has extensive experience working with all groups, but primarily the distance group, or as they fondly call it, "Ralph's House of Pain". In this video, Crocker shares the training and race strategies for the 400 and up. In the training portion of the presentation, Crocker begins with "Distance Training Basics" that reflect his overall success and experience that he incorporates into training his Auburn training group. He also shares a season-long training plan and strategy that includes strategies for a shorter high school season, weekly training plans, and workout construction. Crocker also devotes a segment to pre-meet warm up discussing the importance of the pre-meet warm up, structuring a proper meet warm-up along with specific examples. Brackin begins this video by sharing the five phases of a season she uses with her backstrokers. Throughout the training phases, Brackin relates how a shorter high school season would fit into the seasonal plan she shares. Phase 1: Aerobic Phase. Focus areas include a dryland circuit out of the water and in the water and aerobic swimming incorporating technique work. Phase 2: Aerobic Overload, focuses on increasing the aerobic intensity and bringing in an emphasis on racing tempo. In Phase 3: Quality Training, Brackin transitions her backstrokers into more quality work and adds a focus to race intensity training. Brackin also touches on gender differences in the training phases. Phase 4 brings in a lot of quality work with more race-specific focus. Also, race-specific skills are fine-tuned in this phase in preparation for Phase 5, the taper phase. Coach Brackin then shares what she calls "season long essentials" that serve as a great reminder to a coach that there are several aspects of training and skill development that need to be honed throughout the entire season. In keeping with Coach Marsh's love of training toys, Brackin next shares the training devices she incorporates into backstroke training.
