As we begin the new century, Ukrainian music is finding a prominent place among the music of other nations. Their native composers? music best express the richness of their heritage and Valentin Bibik is one such composer. Born in Karkiv in 1940, his current output is huge and approaching opus 120. In addition to his many choral and vocal works ? a vital and manifest feature of Ukrainian music through the centuries ? are assorted sonatas for violin, cello, and piano; two concerti for flute and chamber orchestra, and many symphonies that coalesce in making a grand statement to his unique, musical gifts. His Symphony No. 7, completed in 1982, is included in the TNC catalog.
