The Yali Video For the Yali
About 25 hours of video was filmed among the Yalis in November 2001. From this footage, The Yali Story was produced. However, we had promised the Yalis that we would do something for them, so in March 2003, John and Gloria Wilson spent three weeks with Doug Kracht to edit and compile all the Yali language material we had filmed at that time.
We completed 3 hours of video in several sections including Walking in the light the history of the Yali church (37 minutes), and eyewitness accounts of key events, and personal testimonies. This all fits on 4 VCDs, which are more accessible to Papuans than DVDs, because they can be played on a computer or with a VCD player available in Indonesia.
The whole history told by the Yalis and their testimonies are powerful. We believe God will use these to continue to challenge and bless the Yali church in Papua. The video Walking in the Light was shown to a crowd of about 3000 Yalis at a big church celebration at Ninia in May 2003. Otto Kobak wrote afterwards thanking us for this gift to the Yali church. The publication of the Bible has given them a great sense of their identity and a desire to stay in touch with their history, particularly with regards to how the Gospel came to them and transformed their lives.
Translation to other Languages
In addition to English and Yali, The Yali Story is in production in several different languages.
A Chinese version, with Mandarin & Cantonese voice dubs along with Chinese subtitles is being produced by Network Production in Richmond Hills, Ontario.
Sat7, the Christian satellite channel broadcasting to the Middle East, is translating the project into Arabic, for broadcast use.
