The Globe Model GL1167 Extra Large Orifice Upright Sprinkler is intended for use in NFPA 13, 231, 231C, 231D and 231F Systems, when installed in accordance with the Standard Sprinkler Positioning and area / density flow calculation requirements as specified in each respective standard. When acceptable to the Authority having Jurisdiction the Model GL1167 Sprinkler may be used as a "special application" sprinkler when installed to protect single, double and multiple-row and portable rack storage of Class I - IV group A and B plastics, cartoned, expanded or unexpanded, as well as exposed unexpanded with a maximum storage height of 20 feet, maximum ceiling height of 25 feet, 36 inches minimum deflector to top of storage clearance, design density of 0.60 gpm/sq. ft., and a design area of 2,000 sq. ft. for wet systems or 2,600 sq. ft. for dry systems.
The Model GL1167 Sprinkler is a low profile yet durable design which utilizes a 5mm frangible glass ampule as the thermosensitive element. While the sprinkler provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance, it serves to protect various area coverages. This sprinkler series is available in the upright style and several temperature ratings and finishes to meet varying design requirements.
The heart of Globe's Model GL1167 sprinkler proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealed frangible glass ampule that contains a precisely measured amount of fluid. When heat is absorbed, the liquid within the bulb expands increasing the internal pressure. At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern.
