This herbal medicine comes from the name of the root of a herb from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China. Dong Quai possesses the distinction of being the only non-animal source of Vitamin B12, along with some varieties of yeast. It is also used as a female aphrodisiac, although the effect is general weak and almost un-noticeable.
