the authors
Full of great photos throughout, with some very nice color shots in the book's center section, Beck and Clark set out the essential guidebook to the town and the people of Mayberry, arranging in one place just about every factoid and tidbit of information ever uttered on camera during the series. They've constructed a town map using features described during the show's eight seasons; they recall every the esoteric essential in characters' "biographical" sketches (Otis Campbell, the town drunk, works at the furniture factory as a glue-dipper, in case you didn't know). You'll find a handy "Mayberry Yellow Pages" based on the factual record as taken from the show's scripts. There is an episode guide and even a quiz -- "Miss Crump's Final Exam" -- to measure your own Mayberry scholarship.
It's a remarkable and fascinating book, indispensable to any Andy Griffith aficianado.
