In New Zealand you will find the source of the world's first organic spring water. Southern Islands Organic Spring Water bubbles out of the ground at a spring named Te Waireka, which means Sweet Water in the Maori language.
Filtered by nature
The water began its life many years ago as rain, falling high in New Zealand's isolated Mamaku Ranges. Over time it filtered down to the deepest layers of volcanic rock, finally reaching the underground channels of the Te Waireka spring. The water that bubbles to the surface today has been through a filtering process that took around 130 years. Te Waireka is one of the few places in the world where you can drink safely from a natural spring.
Healing powers
Humans have valued the waters of Te Waireka for as long as New Zealand has been inhabited. The people of the Maori tribe Te Arawa, who lived close to the spring, believed that the waters had special healing powers. Wounded warriors were carried to the spring to drink its water, to speed the healing process. When European settlers came to New Zealand in the 1840s, they quickly learned to appreciate the high quality of the spring's water and came from many miles around to collect it.
BIO-GRO audited and certified
The Te Waireka spring produces 60 litres of water per second and the temperature remains a constant 12°C. The bottling plant and its processes have been BIO-GRO audited and certified. Before the water is bottled, it is ozonized to ensure it reaches the consumer in pristine condition. An externally contracted laboratory performs a series of tests daily and weekly to check the purity of the water.
