Whether you hang Pennants that focus on the cities and regions immediately surrounding your cottage, or pennants that are a reminder of your hometown or fondest trips, vintage pennants are an affordable and fantastic way to decorate a rustic cottage living room or child's bedroom.
About Pennants
Starting around the mid-1920's, cities and towns began to create felt pennants as a means of providing 'hometown pride', as well as for tourists who passed through the area. By the 1950's, town pennants had become so popular a collectors' item for tourists that sports teams and special events (such as expositions) began to create and sell them. Seeing a pennant of Niagara Falls on a child's wall, or the flag of a person's hometown in their college dorm room were not uncommon sights in the 1950's. However, by the 1960's pennant collection and sales began to wane, and while some new pennants are still manufactured today, they are becoming more and more scarce.
About Our Pennants
All our pennants are of 'vintage' nature, with the majority dating back to the 1940's-1960's. Where possible, we try to estimate the age of the pennant. Most pennants are approximately 20-25 inches long (50-65cm) although smaller ones were still quite popular, and can create a nice montage when hung with several larger ones on a wall.
