1850 Calhoun County Alabama

This 60-foot span bridge is one of about 200 in the United States constructed with a modified Kingpost truss system. This bridge was built 1850, burned in 1920 and was repaired but not restored. Coldwater Bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.

At one time, this was the only covered bridge in Alabama that could be seen from a major freeway. It is now relocated in Oxford, Alabama City Park just north of I-20.

This picture was drawn while Coldwater Bridge was at its original site. The remains of a dam and mill can be seen upstream of where the bridge originally stood over Coldwater Creek. Sadly, the only remains are the foundations of concrete and rock that speak to an interesting mill that serviced the people of this area in years past.
