2001 reissue of the Gun Club's debut which is the watermark for all post-punk roots music. For most of us, "Fire Of Love" was the blueprint. First on import then on the Beggars Banquet imprint, it's staggering even now, supping manically from a psychedelic still of blues, punk and rockabilly, Pierce shrieking unearthly garage delights like "Sex Beat," "Jack On Fire" and "She's Like Heroin To Me". In discerning quarters it's still revered and rightly so. Jeffrey Lee Pierce was a cursed poet, bitterly aware of his eminent demise, which was probably a major part of the fatal beauty in his songs written for The Gun Club. Jeffrey Lee Pierce's early synthesis of blues, punk, country and swamp rock created a path that few have been able to follow. For those who have been intrigued by the special mournfulness of this artist and who hankers for insights on the early American cow punk scene, there are plenty of tasteful morsels here. If you are completely unfamiliar with Gun Club as a band, your first buy should be The Gun Club's debut album "The Fire of Love".
