Appropriate for ALL Parenting/Child Development Classes
Board games developed by Diane Smallwood, Teen Parent Program Teacher
Combine fun and learning as you teach concepts through play. Gentle competition for two to six players. Another step in teaching reality. Colorful boards, 200+ questions each. Bonus cards. Sturdy and attractive containers.
Multiple uses:
* Focus on one chapter - or entire book
* Review for quizzes
* Can be used alone (without text)
* Child Development, Parenting classes
* Teen Parent Programs
* Independent Study - to play with family
Each game is unique. Includes 200+ bonus cards. Majority check student's grasp of information: "Why is it dangerous for baby to have diarrhea for very long?." Other cards are chance-based: "Your babys temperature is 101° and you call the doctor. Roll the die for extra moves" or "When your baby babbles, you dont talk back the baby doesnt understand anyway. Roll the die and go back the number rolled." Truly makes learning fun.
Teaching Tips
If you have only a short time to review, maybe at the end of a class period, try this quickie. Draw a simple tic tac toe game on the board and divide the group into two teams. Read one of the game cards to Group One. (Color of card indicates topic.) If they answer it correctly they get to put an X on the board. If incorrect, Team Two gets a chance. Student Comments
Recently a teacher asked her students to comment on the Pregnancy and Newborn Journey board game (Morning Glory Press). Among the responses were:
* It's fun and you learn more stuff by having fun.
* It's colorful and cool.
* Well, it makes us think and know more about having a baby.
* Some of the questions are hard, but the other ones are easy.
* I like to answer the questions because it makes me think.
* I liked playing the game because everyone got along.
* What I like about this game is that I learned a lot — things I didn't know.
