After their previous album 'Red Light Melancholy' which was strongly influenced by the tragic death of Adrian Borland, The Convent return with a new album which has an easier feel than it's predecessor. About Kings and Queens and stolen Bicycles features a new rhythm section and musically has drifted away from their earlier 80's Wave influences รก la The Church, The Chameleons, The Sound and/or Echo & the Bunnymen. This might dissapoint those who loved The Convent's earlier material but it must be said that the band have had the guts to explore new musical paths. The delay on the guitar has been left away for a great deal to make place for a more electric/acoustic guitar appoach, the drums are now accompanied by a drum computer and all kinds of noises and samples were added. Emotionally, this album has nothing to do with wavy darkness or sadness but is more leaning towards pop. This album deserves a serious chance if you also like some "softer" music and if you don't mind that the guitars are a bit mixed to the back for once.
