Various Artists - Bluegrass All Stars: Sixteen Grand Slams from Sugar Hill
(Sugar Hill 3982) released 2004
The Sugar Hill Records Bluegrass All-Stars compilation features some of the finest purveyors of contemporary bluegrass. Sugar Hill offers this collection of bluegrass gems to the public in order to introduce new listeners to the fold and give old fans more of the quality sound they've come to expect from Sugar Hill bluegrass.
The album kicks off with Nickel Creek's #1 single Smoothie Song, which marked the first time that an instrumental attained such success on the charts (AAA format). Also featured are vocals by Del McCoury (County Fool), Alison Krauss (I Don't Believe You've Met My Baby) and Vince Gill (Rose Of Old Kentucky), and a track from one of the most dynamic vocal groups around-Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver (Blue Train (of the Heartbreak Line).
Multi-faceted artists like Tim O'Brien, Sam Bush and Ronnie Bowman are also highlighted. Equally prominent is the fine picking of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Performer of the Year award winners on their respective instruments like Jerry Douglas (Resophonic Guitar), Jim Mills (Banjo), Bryan Sutton (Guitar), and Randy Howard (Fiddle).
