Baucom, Bibey, Graham & Haley (Rebel 1743) released 1998
When 3 members of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver split off to form their own band back in the mid-1980s, they added mandolinist Alan Bibey and performed for a year or two under the name New Quicksilver, playing some superb contemporary bluegrass and recording one fine album on the Cross Current labelnow a collectors item.
After over a decade going their own separate ways, the group is back together as BLUE RIDGE, playing the same brand of tight, hard-driving Bluegrass. This is, in actuality, their rare Cross Currrent album put onto compact disc with the addition of three new songs, including their popular version of BLACK EYED SUSIE, OUR LAST GOODBYE, and Bob Amos THE LANTERN. Every one of the original cuts is first rate, particularly Jimmy Haleys YOURE THE ONE, IM GOING TO MAKE IT AFTER ALL, READY FOR THE TIMES, and the three superb gospel tracks, FEAST FROM THE FATHERS SUPPLY, ILL LIVE ON and LEAD ME ON & ON. A wonderful, strong album from start to finish, and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
