by Akimi Yoshida. New York City: the height of its 1980s crime wave. Aslan Callenreese came here as a runaway, only to fall into the hands of mafioso Dino Golzine, who used him first for sex, and then as an enforcer. Aslan, known on the streets as "Ash Lynx," finds himself at war with his criminal mentor over mysterious deaths surrounding an unidentified drug linked to the code-name "Banana Fish" - a phrase Ash knew previously only as words muttered by his older brother Griff, who returned home from Vietnam insane. Framed for murder, Ash is sent to a prison packed with men in Dino's pay, while the ruthless thug Arthur moves to take over Ash's old territory. But Ash has friends, too. Shady Dr. Meredith has been examining both Griff and the drug, and an attempt by Arthur to retreive the substance for Dino is foiled by Chinese gangbanger Shorter Wong, at the cost of Griff being mortally injured. Meanwhile, a sympathetic cop has asked a friend in prison, Max Lobo, to watch Ash's back. But Max, himself on the trail of "Banana Fish," has a guilty past when it comes to Griff, a guilt that leaves Ash unguarded as predatory cons catch the young man alone...
